The World is Sound
The Rubin Museum of Art
This piece utilizes the formal recording/playback system of Alvin Lucier’s seminal work, I am Sitting in a Room, as research into the embodied perceptual experience of Infinity. Gimbrone’s text is recorded and then transduced into a four-ft tall glass vessel filled with salt water. This recording is played back over and over again until the overtones of the vessel and the digital artifacts of the recording cause the voice to become completely obscured.
